July 10, 2006 at 14:48,   Bob B. said: Congrats to Lee Pepper, winner of our league with 88 points. Although his beloved French did lose in pk's in the final, he did get his flag back. Honorable mention to Austin Gray, who correctly picked Italy to take the cup. Any post-WC thoughts before we close it out?
July 9, 2006 at 18:19,   Bob B. said: Italy=2, France=1
July 7, 2006 at 05:56,   EV said: This one is for Doug, who thought I had a "passionate, misled" view of diving. Sorry mate, looks like the experience is on my side... :D http://soccernet.espn.go. com/news/story?id=373449& amp;cc=5901
July 6, 2006 at 15:00,   Lee Pepper said: Thank you for the return of my flag. See you back here in four years.
July 4, 2006 at 17:32,   Bob B. said: After looking at the video it's clear that the stomp was intentional. That, along with the elbow to McBride's head, are the dirties plays of the cup. Ronaldo appealed like any player should given his team mate's treatment. EV, what are your thoughts?
July 3, 2006 at 06:47,   Michael Longenecker said: well... after looking at video, i'm pretty confident rooney got sent off due to the pushing of ronaldo, not the stomp he gave carvalho. doubters, check out www.ihateronaldo.com... yes, it actually exists. i wonder what's going to happen when man yoo start training after the WC... they'll probably need to find a new winger... just don't try to buy lennon, he's off limits. spurs need to keep some of their good players.
July 1, 2006 at 20:08,   Bob B. said: England fans, I feel your pain. Tough to lose on penalties. I expected a lot more from hot-head Rooney and he hurt his team's chances to win in the 90 minutes.
June 28, 2006 at 22:18,   WHO's GOT IT (Brandon) said: How much will you pay for information that may lead to the recovery of your Flag Pepper?
June 28, 2006 at 22:16,   WHO's GOT IT (Brandon) said: i'm coming after you Mark, and you too Travis!!!!!!
June 28, 2006 at 20:59,   Lee Pepper said: Where's my FLAG!!!!!
June 27, 2006 at 19:21,   Bob B. said: Ghana should have scored in the first half. Overall African soccer has come a long way, but they lack world class strikers. At this level, you can't win without it. Brazil is the team to beat.
June 27, 2006 at 17:51,   Michael Longenecker said: wow, josh... what a comeback
June 27, 2006 at 16:55,   Travisio (Big Bubba Fred) said: ALLER l'Espagne! L'enfoncer au français! En bas avec Lee! ** ¡VAYA España! ¡Atásquelo al francés! ¡Hacia abajo con Lee! ** Ole Ole Ole O-le!!
June 26, 2006 at 23:15,   Lee Pepper said: It's do or die time tomorrow. Disparaissent la France, coup-de-pied Espagne dans les fesses.
June 25, 2006 at 22:37,   Josh Doyle said: Portugal v Holland - did Deco get sent off for being rugby tackled by cocu?? If Holland would have won that would have been unfair. England v Ecuador - I think England played well, its how you win tournaments, not conceding goals. Would be nice to see some more support for Rooney though. P.S Saw England at Dan McGuinesses downtown - completely packed with England fans - great experience - seriously either there or Two doors down to watch some games if you want the real World Cup experience!!
June 23, 2006 at 19:43,   Bob B. said: Looks like Lee "Papa Smurf" is still on top the group.
June 22, 2006 at 23:12,   Bob B. said: Someone send the police to Nuremberg stadium. Word is that Landon Donovan is still running around the field looking for the ball.
June 22, 2006 at 22:38,   Josh Doyle said: USA - poor refereeing again, poor ghana timewasting tactics, but face it, poor finishing - they needed to speed up their play too and they blew it by taking it too slowly. Sack Arena, he's done, get new blood in, a big foreign coach like guus hiddink...
June 22, 2006 at 14:27,   Bob B. said: Too far a drive for me. I'll be watching it in Franklin. I hope our boys pull off an upset. Mcbride needs to get a goal early to set the tone. Actually, somebody, anybody, needs to score a goal for the US.
June 22, 2006 at 03:07,   Josh Doyle said: where are people watching the usa game tomorrow morning? anyone going to two doors down?
June 21, 2006 at 23:23,   Travisio (Big Bubba Fred) said: Oops- I mean, "Way to go Bob!"...
June 21, 2006 at 22:13,   Mark Pfeffer said: Bob takes the lead...cheers!!!
June 21, 2006 at 22:13,   Travisio (Big Bubba Fred) said: Lee- are you going to take that from Bob?? C'mon- use those mental powers of yours!!
June 20, 2006 at 23:30,   Mark Pfeffer said: Matt, you will fizzle away soon...
June 20, 2006 at 22:59,   Bob B. said: Matt, wow. I bow humbly in your general direction....
June 20, 2006 at 22:16,   Matty said: Thanks B...I like to attribute my picks to a litte thing I call "the book". A few years back some old man named Biff handed me it and said it would make me a fortune. He also said some punk kid would be coming around to look for it eventually...go Espana!
June 20, 2006 at 22:10,   WHO's GOT IT (Brandon) said: contrats to matty on the 6pt day!!! OLE
June 20, 2006 at 14:19,   Bob B. said: Another great line up today. The Germany/Ecuador game should be close given Ecuador's recent play. England vs. Sweden is a classic European clash. I think Germany and England will win.
June 19, 2006 at 23:09,   Michael Longenecker said: good thing they pulled it off... i got 3 points ;)
June 19, 2006 at 22:14,   Bob B. said: Holy paella! Spain got the scare of their lives.
June 19, 2006 at 17:27,   Matty said: That Swiss win was not good for you Lee. You may want to take down the French flag now. French fries are the only good thing France produces any more. No offense if anyone if French, just friendly banter.
June 19, 2006 at 14:50,   Lee Pepper said: Ok, I've got my French flag, fresh from eBay up. Where is the Argentine, US, Portuguese and Brazil flags?
June 19, 2006 at 14:48,   Lee Pepper said: The French, like the US go robbed by poor officiating. Did you see the play where the Korean goalie blocked while he was standing behind the line. And then Zidane getting his second yellow card. Oh well.
June 19, 2006 at 14:26,   Bob B. said: Lee, I'm not ready to write you a check just yet. Especially with your faith in the French. Peter, nice job moving to the top position.
June 16, 2006 at 20:30,   Lee Pepper said: Aren't we chipping in $10 each into a pool for the winner?
June 16, 2006 at 20:05,   Bob B. said: Both games today have been great to watch. I thought IC was going to equalize. Mexico's game should be equally exciting.
June 16, 2006 at 19:56,   Matty said: Great match between Holland and Ivory Coast! The next match in that group is going to be a good one...believe it or not I favor Holland in that one. Should be fun to watch!
June 16, 2006 at 17:01,   Travisio (Big Bubba Fred) said: Marky's poised to overcome me... noooooo!!!!!
June 16, 2006 at 16:59,   Bob B. said: Ole! Ole! Ole!
June 16, 2006 at 01:25,   EV said: no offense taken, but I seriously recommend you pick up a dvd of world cups of 1990 and before. I was just watching a highlights video from 1990 where players did not fall and whine everytime they were touched. Schillaci, Maradona, Lineker all great.
June 15, 2006 at 21:52,   Mongolian Beef (Doug) said: EV, I mean no slander, or anything of the sort. Im sorry if you took what was said personally. With that said, I was certainly understanding that you were talking about "diving," I was actually just making light of a situation, which I was greatly amused by; since no one else in this forum seems to hold your very passionate, possibly misled, idealistic opinion. Just humored me, obviously not you. My apologies. Sorry Bob, just wanted to clarify.
June 15, 2006 at 20:10,   Travisio (Big Bubba Fred) said: Way to go referee Bob! Woohoo! Now let's play some futbol... Banzai!!!
June 15, 2006 at 19:34,   Michael Longenecker said: COME ON ENGLAND!!
June 15, 2006 at 19:26,   Bob B. said: Yellow cards to EV and Doug. Turn the page. There's still lots of futbol to be played.
June 15, 2006 at 18:56,   EV said: First, I have nothing against Spain (I predicted they would win). -- Second, I'm not disputing the right to foul, so I dont know why you bring that up. I was talking about the increasing number of divers. Diving was NOT how soccer was played. My father went professional and played in a few copa libertadores game, he will tell you that diving is not a part of soccer. One of his teammates now coaches a youth team for a club in ARG, where players are taught on "credible diving". You say that is soccer, but you if you knew soccer you'd see that 30-40 fouls (60% being staged) in a game is awful, look back at history before you type. -- Doug, bro, with all respect, don't bring teenage slander. First read and understand that we're talking about diving. It does not take any balls to dive. In contrast, players who don't dive are the great ones. -- while you may need to dive to play with me, I surely don't need to dive to score a few on you. -- Winning for me, has to be honest. I dont feel good if my favorite team cheated it's way to a victory.
June 15, 2006 at 16:27,   Mongolian Beef (Doug) said: I would just like to say that i wish all the players would just let their opponents go unchallenged on every play. That way there would be no cheating and no bad calls... oh wait, that would be a sport for a bunch of girls. EV, you can just go ahead and get over it, if you dont like the game how it is, and always has been, go make up your own game. Im sure you would have alot of female recruits.
June 15, 2006 at 16:10,   Mark Pfeffer said: Doug...you need to make a run here. I believe in you!!! Wow, EV seems really taken back about the Spain game...soccer is all about getting the call man...you just gotta accept that its part of the sport.
June 15, 2006 at 03:46,   Michael Longenecker said: i love all the smack being talked in here... josh, i suppose you're only 4 points behind me so i'd better keep my mouth shut... i very well may be this group's charlton athletic, starting out somewhat well then making my way south of mid-table when it's all over...
June 14, 2006 at 23:29,   Matty said: I think the referees have done a good job this WC in making calls or not making a call. They have a great eye for spotting the "flops" and I think they have done well at keeping the games under control. Let's give them a little credit here. Getting calls to execute set plays are apart of the game. Soccer has been this way as long as I can remember. Mistakes happen just like in any other sport.
June 14, 2006 at 23:17,   Bob B. said: EV, good rant. You must really dislike Spain. The truth is that the game is all of the above. Some skill, some luck, some trickery, and a lot of passion. Mix those together and you have the beautiful game. I think the refs so far have done a great job cracking down on flopping and diving. I wouldn't change a thing.
