I am bummed on that wild shot Portugal prediction, but they did pretty well. I am totally for Italy now, France cannot win! I think Germany will pull out 3rd place. Too bad we weren't playing for $$$$! HA! Congrats Dave and enjoy Italia... just watch out for extreme craziness.
July 6, 2006 at 04:11,   jlembo said: priest, if i dont hear from you, congrats on your wedding. have a great time in italy. i think italy is going to pull it out. they have looked pretty good this world cup and they are due.
July 2, 2006 at 00:50,   David Priest said: I can't believe France won. I can't stand that team. Oh well my predictions are over. Way to go Nettles. If Portugal wins you have it wrapped up. I don't know what is worse for me France winning today, or the U.S. not advancing out of the first round!!!
July 1, 2006 at 03:09,   David Priest said: Nettles is now in first. I am done unless Brazil wins it. I am rooting for Italy from now on since I will be going there in nine days for my honeymoon. That country will be crazy if they win it and we will be landing in Rome that night. Oh by the way we will be going to Stadio Olimpico which is where AS Roma plays in the Italian Serie A soccer league. I can't wait.
June 28, 2006 at 16:49,   Markus Winestone said: Calling all those who are in the know... I have set up a Fantasy Football league for us, so start studying those players. We can talk about a draft in August.
June 28, 2006 at 16:22,   Markus Winestone said: Going to FL tomorrow, so I don't know if I will have a CPU, but I will be able to watch some games. Whoever wins Portugal and England is who I want to win at this point now that US and Spain are out. Anyone beside the usual Brazil, Germany, Argentina, France, Italy of the past few decades. What are the odds someone other than one of those teams will win?
June 28, 2006 at 16:19,   Markus Winestone said: ...and still I creep up...
June 28, 2006 at 16:18,   Markus Winestone said: True to that, my main argument is that many other countries go outside their borders for a national team coach, so why shouldn't we? They do it at every other level... I had coaches who had played overseas when I was a kid.
June 28, 2006 at 13:58,   Christopher Story said: Do no list Sven "yawn" Erikson as a competent coach. He makes Arena look like a tactical wizard.
June 28, 2006 at 00:02,   Markus Winestone said: Quick question: Why does the U.S. team insist on having an American as coach? Sampson and Arena- Come on we can do better than that! Australia has a Dutchman, Japan has a Brazilian legend, England has a Swede, we have got to get someone who actually knows something/was successful at international soccer for crying out loud! Klinsmann lives in L.A., lets get him, or Hiddink who seems to always do well with underrated teams...
June 27, 2006 at 23:59,   Markus Winestone said: Yeah, I definitely was going for Spain, now I have to switch again to Portugal or England, but I'll go with my winner pick now. Brazil better beat France this time! I don't know why, but I just don't like the French team. Looks like Travis is not going to be getting that winner correct. And wow if Germany and France do happen to win their games then it'll be down to me and Avinash. Go Portugal!!!!
June 27, 2006 at 22:14,   David Priest said: I hate France!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 26, 2006 at 18:05,   jlembo said: if you could revise your picks, which teams would you have in the semifinals (final four)?
June 26, 2006 at 18:02,   jlembo said: wednesday sounds good. i'd do fow and the hound again, it seems to be a good place for watching sports. wait, i just checked and there are no games wednesday. tuesday is the last round of 16 games and the quarter finals start friday. how about tuesday? brazil ghana at 11am and france spain at 3pm should both be great games. italy v austr. i thought was a great game. italy wins with a penalty kick at 93:00!! amazing i actually got becky to watch the holland game b/c it was so unbelievable. how about when the dude BODY SLAMMED the port. guy!
June 25, 2006 at 23:48,   David Priest said: Is anyone up for watching some games on Wednesday. Let me know if you are interested. We will find a place to go. I missed the games today because of work. I will be watching every game tomorrow. Nettles you can still catch me because the points get bigger and bigger each round. My luck will run out soon!!
June 25, 2006 at 22:16,   Markus Winestone said: POR vs HOL-- what an ugly game! At least my pick is still alive, pretty gutsy defense from the Portugese though at the end. I am coming for you at the top Dave!
June 25, 2006 at 20:55,   jlembo said: all right, Beckham did something today!! i think i even saw hime run, or at least jog, for about a dozen yards!
June 24, 2006 at 01:00,   Markus Winestone said: I like this game, but I think there should be another score for actually getting the round of 16 members correct. Of course, I got 15/16 right, so I am a bit biased, but picking scored correctly is complete luck where you could at the very least claim skill in picking who advances out of group stage. Oh well 5th place, but now no more lucky score picks! It is also cool to note that everyone's champion is still alive!

June 22, 2006 at 14:46,   jlembo said: way to go priest, i see you called that serb-ivory coast score. good work! i think i'm only going downhill from here. caught the holland game yesterday; a bit boring, but i guess neither team had a reason to play hard.
June 22, 2006 at 05:39,   David Priest said: I am now tied for 1st place. I can't believe it with that horrible start I had!!!! Oh well it probably won't last long.
June 21, 2006 at 23:45,   Markus Winestone said: Hey Dave and Travis, update your profiles so anyone can view your predictions. It doesn't matter now since they are locked. I want to know how Dave jumped up to the top so fast!
June 21, 2006 at 16:43,   Markus Winestone said: I am all for watching some later rounds, I'll be in Florida the last couple of days in June thru July 4th, but will be around next week.
June 21, 2006 at 15:17,   jlembo said: we are still down at the beach. no soccer since sunday. there is a fox & hound down here which i may go to to watch neth-arg game. Priest thanks for the invite. next week i'd like to get together with people and watch some next round games
June 21, 2006 at 14:22,   Markus Winestone said: I haven't decided what I am going to do yet. I am going up to Hanging Rock to camp out Thursday night, I was thinking I might watch the first half and then go, or the whole game, I don't know. I might just do a news disconnect and leave at 8 AM and just find out what happened when I return. The game is at 10 AM.
June 20, 2006 at 04:22,   David Priest said: I don't have to go in to work until 3:00 on Thursday. Lembo and Nettles, do you guys want ot watch the U.S. game anywhere. I have a big screen if you guys want to come over. Let me know what you think. I think 9:00 is too early to go to a bar and watch it.

June 18, 2006 at 04:25,   Markus Winestone said: What's up with this message board not loading right?
June 18, 2006 at 02:49,   jlembo said: i wouldnt say the ref favored Italy, he was just terrible. the commentator mentioned that that ref was suspended from the last world cup ue to "call irregularities." i am at the beach now; good news - i have internet; bad news - i don't have ESPN2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after tomorrow i'm done with soccer till next weekend.
June 18, 2006 at 00:25,   David Priest said: I was trying to watch the U.S. game at work on a small black and white T.V. From what I could tell it looks the refs were in favor of Italy. Let me know if I am correct on this. I guess we have to beat Ghana and hope that Italy can beat the Czech Republic. Mastroeni, my boy from N.C. State, did not deserve a red card on that play!!!!!!!!
June 17, 2006 at 22:46,   jlembo said: the US looked good but they can't score!! we dominated the entire game and had two maybe three legit shots. if it were any other game the officiating would have made me turn off the tv. disgusting.
June 17, 2006 at 22:16,   Markus Winestone said: O.K. that U.S./Italy game was nerve-wracking! We really should have won- 9 men! Sheesh!
June 16, 2006 at 18:36,   jlembo said: ivory coast looks pretty good. the thing i give them credit for is not rolling over once they were scored on (e.g. - usa, ukraine, serbia was pathetic). seems like argentina is the team to beat. looking forward to the arg. - holland game. watching the espn commentators, it seems like they forgot about monday's game. there is no way in hell the usa will beat italy
June 16, 2006 at 16:59,   Markus Winestone said: Yeah, let's see who did I have winning it with my first set of picks....? Who did I have winning it the second time I changed it...? Argentina looked just plain incredible. That second goal with the heel pass from Crespo is my favorite now over the Puyol magic to Torres in Spain vs Ukraine. I didn't even see the last three goals. There are a lot of teams that look great (Argentina, Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, Czech Repulic). This is going to get very interesting after the group stage!
June 16, 2006 at 15:49,   David Priest said: Is it too late for me to change my pick to win it to Argentina. Just kidding, but wow do they look good. I guess the U.S. might not get last place after all. Serbia has just quit out there.
June 15, 2006 at 21:30,   jlembo said: Rooney went in about halfway through the second half. he didnt do much but england and the fans got fired up when he got out there. Peter Crotch, I mean Crouch, scored the first goal. that guy does'nt do anything except stand in front of the goal waiting to head it in. watching him play with the ball is painful. I am having my doubts about england in the tourney. i found that yesterdays games, as a whole, were better. England had a ton of chances but couldnt get it in.
June 15, 2006 at 21:18,   David Priest said: I missed all of the games because I was up here working at New Balance. Did Wayne Rooney play? Is Ecuador for real? How does Sweden look? If you can't tell I am going through soccer withdrawal!
June 15, 2006 at 17:56,   jlembo said: PUT IN WAYNE ROONEY ALREADY!!!
June 15, 2006 at 00:42,   jlembo said: i am not a die hard soccer fan and i have enjoyed most games so far. and i agree that todays games were the best so far. even the saudi game was better than most games thus far. i'm not too sure about some of the yellow cards or even fouls. the ref's have got to let them play and let some jersey tugging go! with that being said, i'd watch grasshoppers f--king, at least once every four years or so.
June 14, 2006 at 22:19,   Markus Winestone said: As a matter of fact today's games were without a doubt the best trio in a day so far.
June 14, 2006 at 22:18,   Markus Winestone said: I don't care what anybody says in the US about soccer being as "boring as watching grasshoppers f--k" (that is a direct quote from a dude in my fantasy football league)... that Germany-Poland game was exciting as hell! I jumped up out of my seat twice in the last 5 minutes, and I wasn't even rooting for anyone (maybe Germany), but the high tension at the end of that game and the finish... Man that is what it's all about! Non-stop action- freaking awesome!
June 14, 2006 at 20:06,   jlembo said: i picked saudi arabia 2-1. i thought it was all locked up until they allowed tunisia to score in stoppage!! those bastards! well, at least the US is not in last place anymore
June 14, 2006 at 19:44,   David Priest said: I am now in last place. This is great!
June 14, 2006 at 15:41,   jlembo said: goooooooooooooooooool!!!! !!!! again
June 14, 2006 at 15:23,   jlembo said: spain looks really good, they also capitalize on set shots which I dont think we've seen yet in the wc. I like waking up and watching the first half in bed, make a cup of coffee during halftime, then lay on the couch for pretty much the rest of the day.
June 14, 2006 at 15:18,   Markus Winestone said: You have to log in at the top, then click on "My Predictions". Spain was looking awesome that first half. So is it raining?
June 14, 2006 at 02:15,   David Priest said: Yo, how do I see my full predictions. If you guys know how to do this let me know. Sorry, I meant to say comeback in my last post not comback.
June 14, 2006 at 02:14,   David Priest said: I am horrible. My predictions are terrible. Maybe I can make a comback like my NCAA basketball pool.
June 14, 2006 at 00:35,   jlembo said: first place baby! (for now) the teams that played that I knew nothing about I picked. the teams that were supposed to do well suck! i wish i could change my USA predictions. I dont think they will score at all.
