The French midfield is
phenomenal. Even Zidane
is not in his top
condition, Vieira and
Makelele can still form
the world's best
midfield. At the
beginning of the
tournament, we thought
that every game could be
Master Zidane's last
game. Now the legendary
continues and he presents
us a full 7-game show. At
the end of the final when
the fans of the world
saying goodbye to Zizou
will the massive ovation
leave him in tears?
However, I'll have to let
my preference go to
Italy. So far they have
12 goals (including an
OG) coming from 11
different players. When
their side backs become
side midfielders and side
midfielders become winger
forwards, Lippi presents
us an attacking Italian
team that we have not
seen since 1982. I look
forward to seeing their
4-forward formation again
that they used in the
overtime against Germany.
The Italian soccer is in
a dark age. Some of their
players may need to play
in lower level leagues
next season due to the
scandal of the top
management. I believe
that the players are
blameless. They need to
win a beautiful final
match and to win the
championship more then
ever.
Thanks to the semi-final
referees for well
controlling the games and
not giving out a lot of
yellow cards so that none
of the key players are
banned. It is going to be
a happy ending.

Ballack showed great
class. After being
butchered by an Argentine
player, he could barely
walk in the 2nd half.
Still, he managed to set
up a goal and score a
penalty. Why do Argies
have to start a fight and
throw punches when they
lose? They should just
congratulate their
opponents and move on.

At the risk of using an
over used statement, I
have to say it
"That's why they
play the game." You
have to be good and lucky
to win the Cup.
Argentina was great but
not so lucky. The
Netherland will always be
the dark horse. Don't
sweat it if your champion
is no longer in the
tournament, even
Nostradamus was wrong. I
really thought Mexico was
going to do something in
this cup. Germany really
looks like it is their
destiny to win it this
year. Since I was
assured that I will not
finished last on the
table of World Cup
predictor, I am happy to
say "Go
Germany!" FYI,
after the 1998’s fiasco
in France, the US soccer
association’s goal was to
win the cup in 2010. I
will try hard as heck to
be in South Africa in
2010. With a little bit
of luck, Vietnam and the
US will in the cup in
2010. OK, maybe with a
ton of luck! But then
again “That why they play
the game!”

Pekerman should not have
let Riquelme out so
early. You do not see
this guy showing off a
lot, but he had
successfully decreased
the tempo and well
controlled the midfield.
Argentina definitely
plays at a lower level
without him. Pekerman
should not have used the
defensive formation with
only one goal leading.
Unfortunately, the injury
of Abbondanzieri cost a
substitute. Otherwise,
either Messi or Aimar can
bring a difference. After
all, there is nothing to
complain with penalty
shootouts. They have
shown greatness. Well
done Argentina!

If Nostradamus has his
way, Spain is all set to
lift this year's football
World Cup.
Spanish journalists have
managed to find a
prediction made by
Nostradamus in 1555 about
the outcome of the 2006
World Cup, Russian
magazine 'Pravda' said in
a report.
The 16th century author
of prophecies wrote that
"the Spanish king
and his army will cross
over the Pyrenees at the
end of the sixth month of
the sixth year. The king
will win the battle with
Beelzebub on the fields
of Central Europe, and
the army will return the
Holy Grail to
Spain".
Interpreting the
prediction, journalists
said "The Spanish
king and his army"
stands for the national
Spanish football team and
its coach Luis Aragones.
"The fields of
Central Europe"
stand for the football
stadiums in Germany and
"the Holy
Grail" is the World
Cup, the report said.

What a game! My Argentina
had just shown the
greatest teamwork. Look
at the countless
one-touch passes they
made that led to the
goals. Six goals from

defenders must had felt
hopeless watching the
ball moving.
"Football" is
my favorite sports simply
because of the
continuity: there is no
timeout! (I know American
television stations do
not like it since there’s
no time for
advertisements; for this
reason soccer is not that
popular in the US). Juan
Roman Riquelme did well
controlling the tempo in
the second half and I was
not expecting the other 3
goals. But there was
Lionel Messi the amazing
boy! Riquelme and Messi
had shown some
Maradona-Caniggia type of
connection. The free-kick
which had led to their
4th goal is similar to
the free-kick for the 2nd
goal Argentina made in
1994 against Nigeria. The
Argentines had shown
their best. I won’t feel
bad even if the World Cup
ends today.
