Glad you all got involved and now have some great memories about us anxiously waiting for the big games and happily having board room meetings for games involving the Swiss or the Dutch. I think we have 20 new addicts to this little game called foooooootball. Please take all claim cheques to the money girl (Ania). 1st is Randy with 50%. 2nd is the Claminator with 30%. 3rd is Tbella with 10%. And Ania takes the last 10% for exhibiting blind faith in a team that had a little better luck than Iran. :)See you all in South Africa in 2010.
July 6, 2006 at 21:22,   Johan Cruijff said: And now, the end is near, and so I face, the final curtain. My friend, I'll say it clear, I'll state my case, of which I'm certain. I've lived, a life that's full, I've traveled each and every highway. And more, much more than this, I did it my way. Regrets, I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention. I did, what I had to do, and saw it through, without exemption. I planned, each charted course, each careful step, along the byway, and more, much more than this, I did it my way. Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew, When I bit off, more than I could chew. But through it all, when there was doubt, I ate it up, and spit it out. I faced it all, and I stood tall, and did it my way. I've loved, I've laughed and cried, I've had my fill; my share of losing. And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing. To think, I did all that, and may I say --- not in a shy way, "Oh no, oh no not me, I did it my way". For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught. To say the things, he truly feels, And not the words, of one who kneels. The record shows, I took the blows --- And did it my way!
July 5, 2006 at 14:33,   CLAMBAKE said: GO PORTUGAL!!!!
July 1, 2006 at 19:46,   Kwejibo said: Well I'm out. England was CLEARLY the better team in that game, even with 10 men... They just couldn't finish.
June 28, 2006 at 21:56,   CLAMBAKE said: ...not for long. The English are gonna fold like cheap deck chairs. VIVA BRAZIL!!!
June 28, 2006 at 04:28,   Kwejibo said: ...and back on top.
June 27, 2006 at 19:51,   Tbella said: Polish Gal, you should totally get a prize for that! Hilarious!
June 27, 2006 at 19:22,   Polish Gal said: Out of 14,000 People in this World cup pool I am in 13544!!!
June 26, 2006 at 02:10,   Tbella said: yes, a real tragedy Johan... I feel for you. Carlito, how did you see the game anyway? I thought you were in the parade today? Did you see Charlinski there?
June 26, 2006 at 02:08,   CLAMBAKE said: "'erhanging firmament"... sounds like something firm that hangs... something that Charliski would probably like.
June 26, 2006 at 01:10,   Carlito's Way said: Oh a nice thing to say on a Sunday. Props to Tbella and Claminator.....you are sitting at #386 out of ~20,000 people in the system. Not bad! Hard to imagine but #1 has 75 points (WOW).
June 26, 2006 at 01:07,   Carlito's Way said: Oh yeah who is 'greenguy'?
June 26, 2006 at 01:06,   Carlito's Way said: Thanks for recognizing my illiteracy Bell. I will have to watch my syntax and inclusion of conjunctions when I send you a congratulations note for coming in 3rd ;-). As for the Dutch dude....what the! I guess it makes sense for the Dutch to turn to the "sticky icky" in moments of extreme pain. No more poetry on the banter board especially that which contains "'erhanging firmament". Tomorrow begins a new week of games and banter.
June 26, 2006 at 00:15,   Johan Cruijff said: I have of late - but wherefore I know not - lost all my mirth; and indeed it goes so heavily with my disposition, that this goodly frame, the earth, seems to me a sterile promontory; this most excellent canopy, the air, look you, this brave o 'erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with golden fire, why, it appeareth nothing to me but a foul and pestilent congregation of vapors. What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving, how express and admirable in action, how like an angel in apprehension, how like a god! the beauty of the world; the paragon of animals; and yet to me what is this quintessence of dust?
June 25, 2006 at 23:40,   Tbella said: dammit, I just saw that Clam has portugal losing in the Quarter Finals...and yes, without a few of their key players they will probably lose, but oh well... as long as it's Beckham scoring the winning goal, I'm ok with that.
June 25, 2006 at 23:25,   Tbella said: first off, BOOYA. AS predicted my ME, I'm on top. (just the way I like it) second, carlito... Clam and I both have Portugal going to the Quarter Finals so it looks like Clam and I will be sharing the top stop for a while. (and I will kick him off too eventually, although it will be close since we both have Brazil winning the cup) and third, carlito, yes you are illiterate.
June 25, 2006 at 22:11,   Carlito's Way said: I just read my last post and think I am either illiterate or have poor hand-eye coordination when I am pissed at FIFA and its choice of refs.
June 25, 2006 at 22:09,   Carlito's Way said: Hey look at this Kwejibo ain't on top and looking up at a the butt of a Clam. Bell savour this moment as Portugal are serious trouble in their next game. The view from the top might be going to the Clams shortly.
June 25, 2006 at 22:07,   Carlito's Way said: Ok I just have to say that I truly feel for the Dutch. That game was horrific and was decided by one man (the friggin ref). For those that didn't know, that game tied a WC record of 16 cards issued in a game and seemed to be on track to significantly beat that record. And now the Portugese have screwed themselves over with their top players suspended for a game against the Brits. Consider the Portugese in the city quiet after the next game.
June 23, 2006 at 15:39,   Carlito's Way said: Nice comebacks Kwejibo. Very civilized and clever. Something the rest of this pool lacks when they hit the banter board. Hmmm what is the little black "x" beside your name it says "E J E C T".........I will save that one for the day you actually slag me. Until then enjoy the peak and the offers of views up skirt (unless it is from a Clam or Hand). Pizzle
June 23, 2006 at 15:38,   Kwejibo said: While i could hack this with my eyes closed, I used my amazing skills of future prediction for this. And I will pick lotto numbers for anyone who wants them... for a 20% cut.
June 23, 2006 at 15:37,   CLAMBAKE said: I'm pretty sure Charliski has ass-less chaps that someone could borrow for the parade. It's part of his country-pride collection.
June 23, 2006 at 15:35,   Carlito's Way said: Sean I really appreciate your raiding your closet of flamerific wear for the boa/speedo/access pass. I will decline with thanks and refer you to the Director of Inside Sales as he seems keen to go with you.
June 23, 2006 at 15:31,   Hand of Sean said: Carlito: 1) you know when the gay pride parade is. 2) You quoted Kenny Rogers "The Gambler" 3) you know Celine Dion's first album title. 4) You talk about Vito like you know him personally. That's an automatic ejection from the tournament pool. But, it's not like you'd be in the money anyway. By the way, your pink all access pass to the parade this weekend was delivered with you speedo and feather boa this morning. Just in time!
June 23, 2006 at 15:27,   Kwejibo said: While that new view sounds like fun, you would have to pass me for that to happen. And since I'm quite comfortable here at the peak, I'm not moving. Also, those of you near the bottom are going to have to yell a bit louder if you want me to hear you. (and no, i dont use the NBA Hoops Forum)
June 23, 2006 at 15:25,   CLAMBAKE said: Mark is in the pool? Oh yeah, there he is waaaaaaay down there. He can probably see up T-Bella's skirt.
June 23, 2006 at 15:22,   Carlito's Way said: Ok on behalf of the Claminator himself, I need to pick on Charlinski. Unfortunately he is so low in this pool that I can't use that as fodder. So I will just sing a Karaoke favourite and hope you sing along......."You got to know when to hold'em. Know when to fold'em. Know when to walk away. Know when to run. You never count your money, when you are sitting at the table. There'll be time enough for counting when the day is done! (ta-da)
June 23, 2006 at 15:20,   CLAMBAKE said: PS - I'd like to see the skirt view T-Bella.
June 23, 2006 at 15:20,   CLAMBAKE said: Does anyone else find it coincidental that Kwejibo admits to not knowing much about soccer and yet is firmly in first place with a staggering number of correct score predictions? He also happens to write code all day for a living. I think it's obvious what's happening here: Kwejibo is hacking into the predictions server and staying one step ahead of the true winner here: ME. (props to Carlito - much love dawg)
June 23, 2006 at 15:18,   Carlito's Way said: Hey Johan. As the official doorman of the pool, please make sure to escort out all Kweijbos for insighting riots. Wasn't a "View from the Top" Celine Dion's breakout album? I am not sure if quoting her will bring you luck past the round of 16. Good luck my friend!
June 23, 2006 at 15:15,   Carlito's Way said: Sean what is all this talk of 'blows' and 'going down'. Sopranos are not re-casting for Vito, but I have heard there is a parade that might need you to replace a missing Go-go dancer this weekend.
June 23, 2006 at 15:13,   Carlito's Way said: Dear VFMers, Unfortunately due to a show of poor sportsmanship and the excessive use of trash talk, I am closing the pool. To rekindle the spirit of global unity through football, I will take all of the entrance fees and put them to the most appropriate charitable organization I know. For those of you going out for Mexican food today, please take pride in knowing that the burrito I eat and the Coronitas that I order by the dozen were all made possible by your $$$$. Go Argentina!
June 23, 2006 at 14:31,   Jennybean said: Hey Tbella, I think the view from here's pretty good ;)
June 23, 2006 at 14:17,   Hand of Sean said: Thanks Tbella. It certainly softened the blow of moving down the ranks.
June 23, 2006 at 14:13,   Johan Cruijff said: What the elusive Kwejibo seems to be saying is that he feels that, given his status, he should be entitled to blogspace of his own, and that he finds having to share this one with the likes of the Clambake and the Carlito very trying..
June 23, 2006 at 13:11,   Tbella said: hey Kwejibo, do you go onto the NBA Hooops Forum? Oh and by the way, soon you'll have a new view, looking up at me (if you're lucky I'll wear a skirt)
June 22, 2006 at 21:44,   Kwejibo said: Since I don't have an actual blog, I'll post a temporary one here titled "The view from the top". Since very few (ie: none) of you will have this kind of a view, I thought I'd be nice and describe how it is up here. So over the next few weeks, I'll be posting some of the things I notice that most of you can't see from your point of view. (PS: Anyone else smell seafood?)
June 22, 2006 at 20:26,   Hand of Sean said: YES!! This could be the last time I am this close to being in first (7 points out). Who picks Czech Republic to win anyway? GO ECUADOR!
June 22, 2006 at 15:22,   Jennybean said: Ugh. Is it too late to get my money back?
June 20, 2006 at 17:21,   MayaStriker said: All of you have way too much free time.............
June 20, 2006 at 15:05,   Polish Gal said: Way to go Ania!! You're doing a great job!!
June 20, 2006 at 15:00,   Johan Cruijff said: Oh what pleasure we all derive from these amiable ramblings. Ah yes, the hubris of the Carlito and the dazzling wit of the Clambake, all liberally peppered with gangster and Goldmember references - what joy.. Leads me to reflect on Clambake's extremely authentic impersonation of "Fat Bastard" and his sordid ways. Come to think of it, the impersonation is not just authentic but effortless, scarily so..
June 20, 2006 at 14:48,   Carlito's Way said: Ok peeps! Enough about "angels" and the lack of comebacks. First, let me recognize and take the 'props' that are so rightly owed to the maestro by Clambake, ME. 40% taxation of any second place winnings should be expected. Second, let me put all in perspective by saying that all who picked France to win, need to turn their attention to another form of "cheese" after that Korean game. Third, those that picked the Brits and the Hollish should stick to origami since their visions of grandeur are best expressed on paper. Fourth, the German fans will probably have to thank the Ecuadorians for giving them a reason to stay home during the Round of 16. Finally, to the fans of Argentina. We can plan to spend our World Cup dollars buying beach front property in the country formerly known as "Brazil". I hear that it will be vacant with all the locals hiding in shame after July 9th. Fo shizzles my nizzles ;-)
June 20, 2006 at 14:01,   Hand of Sean said: It's so sad when no one has a comeback. I heard an angel loses it's wings every time it happens.
June 19, 2006 at 16:25,   CLAMBAKE said: Who da man? (much props to Carlito's Way)
June 18, 2006 at 21:56,   Carlito's Way said: Wow! If you didn't see the France-Korea game, make sure you do. My vote for best game so far.
June 17, 2006 at 19:45,   Johan Cruijff said: Right - Carl must have been thinking of the Greeks, who failed to qualify this time around..
June 17, 2006 at 16:27,   CLAMBAKE said: Carl tells me that the Dutch blow goats. But I don't think that's true. Yesterday I saw alot of whining and crying, award winning acting and back-end punishment, but no goat blowing...
June 16, 2006 at 21:45,   Carlito's Way said: I was really impressed with the Dutch today. They took a lot of abuse in the backend, but kept on smiling. Good work!
June 16, 2006 at 20:17,   Johan Cruijff said: 4 yellow cards, one for being fouled in the penalty area - a shocking travesty of justice..
