Making predictions

How do I enter?

Click on enter. On the first page, you enter your personal details. On the second page, you must predict the results of the group stages of the World Cup. On the final page, you predict the results of the knockout stages.

How does the scoring system work?

In the group stages, you have to try to get the score right. Say one of the matches finishes England 2-1 Sweden. If you'd predicted 2-1 you'd score 3 points. If you'd predicted England to win by a different score, say 2-0, you'd score 1 point.

In the knockout stage, you get increasing numbers of points for correctly guessing the teams to reach each round.

Once I've made my predictions, can I change them?

Yes, just login and click 'My Predictions'. You can change your predictions right up until the start of the first World Cup match on Friday June 9th.

Can I see other people's predictions?

No, they're top secret ;)

Once the world cup starts, can I change my predictions?

No, all predictions are frozen on June 9th, so you'd better get them right first time!

Once the world cup starts, will I be able to see how many points I've scored?

Yes, the main leaderboard and mini-league tables will be updated soon after each match, so you can keep track of your progress. There will also be some extra competitions (separate from the main game) during the World Cup tournament.

Mini-leagues

How do I control who joins my mini-league?

Mini leagues can now be private. Here's how it works:

1. When you create a mini-league, you can choose public (anyone can join) or private (approval required)
2. League owners can change their league to public or private using their Owner Tools section
3. If you try to join a private league, an email is sent to the league owner. They can accept or reject your membership
4. League owners can manage membership requests on the website with just a few clicks :)

How do I invite people to my league?

If the person you want to invite is already playing World Cup Predictions, find their user page (you could try looking on the list of entrants and clicking on their name). If you're the owner of a mini-league you'll see a special box on their user page which allows you to send them an invitation to join your league.

If the person you want to invite is not yet playing World Cup Predictions, send them a message via our tell-a-friend service: you could even win an iPod nano :)
