The curse of the metatarsal
England supportes might be beginning to think their players' feet are jinxed. Wayne Rooney now faces an uphill battle to be ready for the World Cup. Sven Goran Eriksson has said he will pick Rooney in his squad even if he's only fit for the World Cup Final. Perhaps he only needs to be fit to hobble on in the 120th minute and take a penalty.
Fair's fair, if England loses one of its best players, all the other teams should also give up one player. If you could eliminate one player from each of the other main contenders for the World Cup, who would you choose? Post your comments below...

We don't need Rooney. Obviously he's going to be missed, but to win the world cup you need to be a team and play as a team, not as a one man band which is what Sven had planned for us

Just to add my comments, I broke my foot in the same place as Rooney and Beckham and its take me a year to not have any pain in it and believe me I don't play much sport. Plus if it was any other country that had lost one of it's best players would we offer to give up one of ours for free? A team should not be reliant on just 1 player.

how can u compare the skill n class of ronaldinho to wayne rooney hu has the looks of shrek n the body of a fat monkey? england were never goin to win it even with rooney

England won't miss Rooney so long as Sven lines up his team in such a way that allows Gerrard to get forward - play one striker and carrick, then gerrard and lampard can get forward and support crouch/owen.

England needs wayne rooney its not like brasil that if a player that is not available there is another player close to his skill. Walcott has never played one game he is not ready

Brazil: Ronaldinho
France: Henry
Holland: Sneijder
Italy: Totti
Argentina: Riquelme
Spain: Xabi Alonso
Serbia: Kezman
Germany: Ballack
I feel if these players were missing we would have alot more of a chance :) Lets face it no one else will win it!

Spain will be the form team. Last World Cup the best team in the world (Brazil) played the team that thought they were the best in the world (England). Good to see England never learn that they're not that good in the global scheme of things. If they need Rooney how good can they be? Clearly not good enough for a World Cup side that has obviously questionable depth. Forget England. I can't understand why so many people are on their bandwagon.

England is a better team "with" Rooney..whether you like him or not!!

England has a solid defense and midfield, and Gerrard will need to push up in order for them to score goals. Rooney will be missed if only for the attention he would draw from the other managers, leaving more room for the others. I sincerely hope that Walcott starts over Crouch; maybe England would at least play interesting football.

Seriously England will be lucky to survive their group, the final will see Italy beating Brazil in the final.

As much as i like Ronaldinho i think he's gonna be the centerpiece of the WC which means get rid of him first

England would be much better with Rooney but they seem to have enough midfielders so they can move Gearard (sp?)from Liverpool into a striker slot. Owen seems to be OK so I think that, while they will miss Rooney, all is not lost. I would be greatly surprised if they did not get out of their group. After that it's a crapshoot, or if you wish more often than not a penalty shoot.
