Combine two mathmos, 285 table footballers and a very complicated computer program and you have the unofficial Cambridge University table football ranking list...
The rankings are calculated using a system devised by Matthew Mayer and Andrew Flower, and based on the ELO system used in chess. The ratings include both singles and doubles matches. People who have played few matches will have inaccurate ratings (how the ratings work). If you spot errors, eg people appearing twice with slightly different names, please email mem39 or post a message in the forum.

A new player/team starts with a ranking of 1400 (division 1), 1100 (division 2), 900 (division 3). For each match played, his/her rating may increase or decrease. The magic equation used to calculate the new ranking is:

Actual result is 0 for a loss, 1 for a win. Expected Result is calculated from the formula
. Here, dr is the difference in ratings between you and your opponent (positive if you are higher, negative if you are lower). The home team gets a 100 point ratings boost for the purposes of the calculation.
The K-value is adjusted depending on the score in games in the match. A 2-1 win gives K=50, a 2-0 win K=75. (Other possible values where different numbers of legs are played are 3-0=85, 3-1=65, 3-2=40, 4-1=85, 5-0=100). These coefficients are then multiplied by 2 (league), 1 (cup), 0.5 (friendly).
Doubles matches are treated as four separate singles matches, with halved K-values.
Cuppers matches work slightly different. The K-value is fixed at 25, but increases to 50 for quarter-finals, 75 for semi-finals and 85 for finals. Individuals who only play in cuppers start with 1250 ranking points.
Thanks to Andy Flower for helping me devise the system and James Bell for troubleshooting.
And never forget, it's all in the wrist action.
