ENTER NEWS L/BOARD ARCHIVE FUN FA CUP

42 is the answer

It's the most open Fantasy FA Cup competition ever: with only the final to come, there are still 42 people who could feasibly win this year's competition. Jamie from Sheffield saw his team Sheffield United knocked out of the competition, but had the consolation of retaining the overall lead. Craig Dixon and Kypros Michael both scored 18 and are fast catching him up.

Hello Mum

The best performance of the round was a maximum 24 out of 24, achieved by Louise Mayer, who moves up to 27th. Well done! If you hadn't guessed, she's my mother... (It's not a fix, I promise.)

Who are you?

So, what do we know about the 42? There are entrants from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, the USA, Canada, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Basingtoke. There's one previous winner in the shape of Andrew Taylor, though it would take an almighty fluke for him to overcome the 18-point deficit.

A look at some profile pages of the contenders also provides some interesting viewpoints.

  • Dave Belcher: As a Villa fan its about time somethings going right for me this season
  • Robert Legg: i doubt i'll win but i'll be damn close!!!
  • Stew Utd: It must be time Scotland won something!!!
  • Duane Rollins: Last year was a warm up. Had to get the feel ya know.
  • Kypros Michael: Marmite Crisps ROCK!!!

How did you do?

Made up news

As we reach the final stage, there's almost as much room for tactical manouevres as a game of Paper, Scissors, Stone. Arsenal? Southampton? The choices are almost endless. Answers on a postcard please.

Team of the round

Southampton reached their first FA Cup final for 27 years with a 2-1 win over Watford at Villa Park. Brett Ormerod was the unlikely hero for the Saints - he hadn't scored for 23 games but one goal and one assist sent Southampton to Cardiff. A bonus for Southampton is the likelihood of a UEFA Cup place, even if they lose the final... but Gordon Strachan's men will be gunning for victory.
