Bad Saturday
for WednesdayGillingham 3
Sheffield Wed 1
Second division Gillingham reached the sixth round for
the first time in their history after a comprehensive
victory over Premiership Sheffield Wednesday.
Wednesday took the lead thanks to a scrambled own goal in
the 15th minute, but Gillingham refused to panic,
sticking to a tidy passing gane.
On 70 minutes, Gillingham scored what was to be the first
of three goals in just 12 minutes, when Saunders fired
home a cross from Thompson, Thomson himself headed home a
free kick to make it two, and Nicky Southalls
memorable 30-yard shot wrapped up the match.
