Titans The bitter battle for the leadership of Fantasy FA Cup 1998 continues as Ryan Keogh (10.71) edges ahead of close rival Mr Hopkins. Ryan picked up 15 points from the four ties, moving him up from second spot into pole position. There were some impressive leaps up the table. Adam Dunn moved up from 20th to 13th place with a score of 15. The same total for the round lifted Andrew Taylor up 8 places into ninth - pretty impressive if you consider that he was in last place just two rounds ago. The performance of the round, however, can go to only one man - Barry Bridges. Languishing down in 15th place, a superb 20 points from two perfect predictions catapaulted him up to the dizzy heights of 3rd place. This was the second highest jump in the (albeit relatively brief) history of Fantasy FA Cup. Andrew Bunday's best effort was predicting the 3-1 scoreline in the Newcastle-Barnsley tie. Unfortunately for his points total, he had predicted Barnsley to win. Well, better luck next time ... |
Magpies soar into semis Newcastle Utd 3 Newcastle booked a place in the semi-finals, but not without a struggle against 10 man Barnsley. Temuri Ketsbaia raced through to open the scoring for Newcastle, and Gary Speed followed this with his first goal for the club in the 27th minute. Undeterred, Barnsley hit back, Andy Liddell knocking one past the keeper, and they were soon looking for an equaliser. However, they received a setback when Adie Moss was sent off in the 76th minute for a second bookable offence. After that, Barnsley began to slip and a last minute goal by David Batty sealed the game for Newcastle. |
