Dushal lifts the cup

Dushal Patel of 9.10 is the overall winner of Fantasy FA Cup 1997. His 10 points in the final round were enough to secure him first place, just two points ahead of Robert Smith (also 9.10).

Dushal was presented with the trophy by event organiser Matthew Mayer, however he refuses to reveal the secret of his success. He does intend, however, to attempt to defend his title next year, in Fantasy FA Cup 1998!

Chelsea triumph over the 'Boro

Before most viewers had even settled back into their armchairs, Roberto Di Matteo ran on to Wise's pass just inside his own half, and, aided by Mark Hughes, advanced to within 25 yards of the goal, before sending an unstoppable shot over the Middlesbrough goalie. Just 42 seconds had passed, the fastest ever goal in a Wembley Cup final, beating the record establihsed in 1955 by Jackie Milburn of Newcastle United.

Newcastle never recovered from this early setback, and, seven minutes from time, Chelsea put the lid on it with a goal from Eddie Newton.

That really summed the season up for Newcastle: two Cup finals lost and relegation from the Premiership. Surely next season can only get better.
