Dushal being caught up

Dushal Patel of 9.10 has almost been caught up by the other entrants in Fantasy FA Cup 1997, after scoring nil points during the semi-finals. Dushal now leads second-place Robert Smith by just 2 points.

The semi-finals were noticeably low-scoring mainly owing to the surprise 3-3 draw of Middlesbrough and Chesterfield. As there were so many entrants scoring 6 points and so in joint first place for the round, no official semi-final prize was awarded.

Chesterfield last minute equaliser

In an incredible match at Old Trafford, home of Premiership leaders Manchester United, lowly second division Chesterfield held mighty Middlesbrough to a draw. With a little more luck they could easily have won the tie.

Chesterfield surprised everyone by scoring twice, leaving the Middlesbrough fans stunned. But Middlesbrough fought back with two goals making the score level.

There was a controversial decision by the referee when he did not signal a goal when a Chesterfield shot bounced over the line, as shown in a slow-motion replay.

In extra time, Middlesbrough scored and thought they were on their way to Wembley. But in the final minute of the final period of extra-time, Chesterfield scored and booked a replay.
